This year’s Mecum Kissimmee Auction drew a crowd of 29,000 enthusiastic spectators and eager bidders to Osceola Heritage Park, January 28-31, 2010. In addition to the huge crowd, total gross sales surpassed $25 million as Mecum’s Kissimmee Auction jumped to number two on their list of annual auctions, right behind Indianapolis. Since moving to the Osceola Heritage Park location in 2006, the Kissimmee Auction has been growing at a rate of over 50% per year.
“We hosted a packed house at our annual Kissimmee Auction, which grew immensely in both bidder registration and sales this year,” said President Dana Mecum. “Compared to our 2008 Kissimmee event, our gross sales increased more than 60 percent. My dedicated team along with SMG’s staff, the Kissimmee Convention and Visitor’s Bureau plus the reception we have received from the community has all come together to make the Kissimmee Auction one of our top events in the nation.”
Mecum reports total gross sales (excluding buyer’s premium) for the four-day Kissimmee Auction were $25.6 million, boasting a 71 percent sell-through rate. The sales leader was a pristine 1966 Riva Super Aquarama Series II Prototype that had a winning bid of $775,000.
“The Mecum Auction Company is a first class organization and we are thrilled that their auction here at Osceola Heritage Park has blossomed into an international event. My favorite Dana Mecum quote is that he chooses ‘not to participate in this recession.’ What a ray of light that is for all of us,” said Osceola Heritage Park/SMG General Manager, Robb Larson.
